Pune: Maharashtra real estate regulator (MahaRERA) has launched suo motu action against 14 projects in the state that are advertised on various platforms without being registered with the association. The developers of these projects were issued notices stating that they had placed advertisements without mentioning MahaRERA’s registration number.
According to the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) Act, developers cannot advertise their projects, register them, or sell units without registration.
Of the 14 projects facing crackdowns, five are in Mumbai, three in Pune and Nagpur, two in Nashik and one in Mumbai. AurangabadWe require developers to respond within 7 days of receiving notice.
“If developers do not respond to these notices, they may be penalized,” MahaRERA officials shared after the notice was issued.
Authorities said last month they would launch such Suomotsu actions against the project after they noticed advertisements for the project appearing in newspapers without mentioning the MahaRERA number. Authorities say they closely monitor such ads. Sites must also clearly state the registration number in their advertisements.
However, certain developers have even said registrations have been completed in some cases, but without disclosing the numbers, senior MahaRERA officials told TOI.
The law mandates that new in-progress projects of 500 square meters or more or flats of 8 units or more must be registered with MahaRERA.
