LOS ANGELES (AP) – Maria Sherman has been appointed music writer for The Associated Press, a key role for the press cooperative responsible for delivering news on a globally significant beat.
Sherman, who started on Monday, will head music coverage for The Associated Press’ entertainment and lifestyle division, which has video, photo and text journalists on three continents. She will also work closely with colleagues across AP’s U.S. offices, international offices, and her team to beat her globally.

Sherman, 31, is based in Los Angeles. An accomplished music and culture journalist, she previously worked as a culture writer at Netflix, Senior Writer at Jezebel, Managing Editor at Gizmodo Media Group, Senior Correspondent at Fuse TV, and Contributor at BuzzFeed Music.
Born in Texas, grew up primarily in Germany, stayed in several other places, and studied Music and Cultural Criticism and Creation at New York University.
Her first book, Larger Than Life: A History of Boy Bands from NKOTB to BTS, was published in 2020 and was adapted into a documentary by Gia Coppola.
