Sioux City, Iowa (KCAU) — Young people in Sioux may find a new foothold with the debut of a new hip-hop group called “Sioux Crew.”
According to the release, the group will be open to anyone between the ages of 8 and 18 and will learn the basics of dance and hip-hop from various teachers.
The group’s mission, according to the release, is to bring dancers together to experience Suland’s hip-hop culture. Sioux Crew founder Ashley Olson said it was intended to give dancers the opportunity to perform, compete, battle and showcase their talents while building an education around hip-hop culture.
“We teach students how to express themselves through movement, music and art while building relationships, social skills and creativity,” Olsen said.
According to the release, Olsen partnered with theaters, dance studios and after-school programs to launch workshops and promote non-profit programs.
In addition to the workshop, auditions to be part of the hip-hop crew will be held on July 24th at 6pm at the Jensen Performing Arts Center.
The first dance workshop will take place June 19th and 20th at the Sioux City Community Theater. Additional workshops will follow on June 27th at the Jensen Performing Arts, July 13th and 14th at the REACH Theater, and July 17th at 5678 Dance Studio.All workshops run from 10am to 12pm
