ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Marla Moore said private music lessons made her the person she is today. Now a professional musician and vocal teacher, he hopes to do the same for others at the Ann Arbor Academy of Music.
Moore is the owner and director of the Ann Arbor Academy of Music. The Academy recently opened at the end of May at 2363 E. Stadium Boulevard. in Ann Arbor.
Music Academy offers private and group music lessons to students of all ages and skill levels, whether they prefer in-person, home-based, or online class options. In the future, students will be able to take lessons in instruments such as guitar, voice, piano, violin, bass, and ukulele, Moore said.
“We’re going to slowly figure out what the community needs and take it from there,” she said. “We have some core equipment that is very popular in Ann Arbor, and we plan to expand to other equipment as the community needs it.”
Moore said that the educators who teach at the academy have degrees in music or have extensive playing experience, and that all instructors are passionate about teaching students of all skill levels. He added that he is confirming that
“Our school’s reputation is important, so bringing in the best teachers for our students is very important to me as a board member,” she said. “We are looking for excellence, and we are also looking for people who want to inspire.”
Moore has been teaching vocal lessons alone in Ann Arbor for the past decade. When her opportunity presented herself, she was determined to fulfill one of her lifelong dreams and create a space where musicians could influence each other.
“This has been a long-term goal of mine and to see it come to fruition is absolutely incredible,” she said. “I am so grateful that my dream is becoming a reality.”
Moore said the music academy is already developing group classes to engage students, such as the Princess Music class, which incorporates rhythm and pitch practice for children ages 5 to 7. . These classes will be led by professional princess instructors, with children singing along to popular songs, she said. .
“The group class element is very important to me because I believe we shouldn’t just be making music in isolation,” said Moore. “It’s meant to be shared and done with others.”
But the Ann Arbor Music Academy hopes to do more than just teach you how to play an instrument, Moore said, adding that his music lessons have taught him responsibility, discipline and interpersonal skills. These skills she wants to teach others, she said.
“When I was younger, school was a little difficult for me and I had a hard time concentrating until I went to music class,” she said. “That’s where I learned to concentrate, and I think the individual music lessons shaped me, especially from an early age. It was profound.”
“It’s coming full circle for me because of the impact those lessons have had on me. I want to share it with all my students as much as I can. I want to be a person who increases the number of students who can take private lessons that can change.”
