One of the most basic features available in many music-playing apps, the ability to crossfade between songs is one of the biggest missing features in Apple’s Music app, but that changed later this year. I plan to
According to MacRumors, the just-released developer beta of iOS 17 finally added crossfade functionality to the Music app for iOS.
Crossfade is a function that allows you to smoothly fade in to the next song while fading out one song, and is a feature often used in music playback apps.
Among streaming music competitors, Spotify and Tidal both offer crossfade functionality, and the desktop version of Apple’s Music app for Mac also has a crossfade setting. The lack of this feature in the mobile version of Apple Music has long pissed me off.
Apple didn’t specifically mention the arrival of crossplay in its iOS Music app during its WWDC keynote on Monday, but the feature was spotted in the newly released iOS 17 developer beta.
MacRumors have issued a warning to anyone trying to enable crossfade in the iOS 17 beta. When enabled, the Music app crashes (more specifically:[ミュージック]The app crashes when I try to tap the tab). Perhaps this bug will be fixed in the next beta version.
Besides the crossfade feature, there are other changes to the Apple Music app as well.
One music feature that Apple briefly mentioned in its press release is collaborative playlists.
According to Apple, collaborative playlists “make it easier than ever to listen to music with friends,” without providing additional details.
A screenshot of this feature from MacRumors shows a playlist being shared between four friends, with each song (presumably) accompanied by a user icon indicating who shared each track. increase.
Overall, the Apple Music app’s collaborative playlists sound like Spotify’s similar feature that lets you set playlists to be “collaborative” between friends.
Apple has said that the Music app’s collaborative playlists will be released “later this year,” so it won’t necessarily be released at the same time as the first release of iOS 17, MacRumors points out.
Finally, iOS 17 brings some subtle interface changes to the Apple Music app, and MacRumors reports that animated album covers will soon appear in full-screen music players.
In another change, a minimized music player now has a shadow, making it appear to float above the screen.
iOS 17 is expected to arrive this fall.
