Ashanti has a new role.
The R&B singer has joined the cast of the upcoming drama no addresscenters on communities of homeless people fighting camp eviction.
According to Deadline, Ashanti will play Violet, an Iraq War veteran who suffers from PTSD and turns to drugs as a coping mechanism.
The film also stars William Baldwin, Xander Berkley, Beverly D’Angelo, Ty Pennington, Lucas Jade Zumann, Kristanna Loken, Patricia Velazquez and Isabella Ferreira.
“I’m so excited…..I’ve never played a character like this before,” Ashanti said while presenting the film. “Violet is an Iraq War veteran who suffers from PTSD. and turned to drugs as a coping mechanism ..which resulted in her becoming homeless.”
Principal photography is currently underway in Sacramento. Julia Verdin (Stander, Merchant of Venice) directed and co-wrote the script with James J. Papa.
“By making a film about people experiencing homelessness, I hope to open people’s minds and remind them that there are people with nowhere to go on the streets.
The film is endorsed by many West Coast organizations that help the homeless community, including Step Up LA, Union Rescue Mission LA, Downtown Women’s Center, First Presbyterian Church, and Hollywood.
Ashanti is no stranger to acting.She has previously graced the big screen in movies including coach carter, Resident Evil: Extinctionand john tucker must die.
When not acting, Ashanti is in the studio re-recording her 2002 debut album. She returned in 2021 and revealed that she now owns her 2002 master Ashanti Release independently.
