Rosamond Johnson Beach Day Ceremony
Saturday, May 6th at 10am. Perdido Key, Gulf Islands National Seashore, Johnson Beach. Rosamond Johnson enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 15 and was killed on the Korean Peninsula two years later. While engaging the enemy on 26 July 1950, Private Johnson carried two of his wounded soldiers to safety. He was mortally wounded while trying to save his third wounded. For over a decade, the Perdido Key Chamber of Commerce has invited the Johnson family, local and national dignitaries, and members of the public to the beach to honor the memory of this local hero. In honor of the sacrifice made by Private First Class Johnson and his family, the National Park Service will waive admission to Johnson Beach from 9 a.m. to noon for attendees of the annual memorial service.
