Home to some of the greatest hip-hop artists, from Notorious BIG to Jay-Z, Mos Def to Busta Rhymes, Brooklyn is an integral part of the history of the national music genre, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The Brooklyn Public Library is celebrating its decades-long connection with .Night in the Library: The Philosophy of Hip-Hop is a free “all-nighter exploration” of the genre’s culture and heritage.

On Saturday, June 17th, BPL will host featured speakers and music artists, including Dr. Gloria Carter of the Sean Carter Foundation. Grammy-nominated host Rhapsody, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Mitchell S. Jackson, Founder of #MusicSermon Keynotes, live performances, cultural debates by Naima Cochrane and others will take place from 7pm to 2am in the iconic Central Library. The night will be co-curated by Really Just Hip-Hop founders LeBrandon Smith, Kelly Harrison, and Akila Worksongs founder April R. Silver.
