Carnatic musicians in Karnataka expressed their problems and concerns at a grievance meeting hosted by the Karnataka Classical Music Federation (KCMC) Trust on Saturday.
Speaking at the gathering, Nagamani Srinath, a popular Carnatic musician, emphasized the importance of establishing a collective voice and unitedly fighting for better rights and recognition.
She joins well-known musicians and future artists in the Carnatic music community. All expressed their frustration about the lack of opportunities for artists in Karnataka.
Some of their concerns are to counter nepotism, create equal opportunities for all, revamp the awards selection process to ensure deserving artists are selected, and make All India Radio’s music auditions transparent. It was related to doing
Dr Jyotsna Srikanth, Co-Secretary of KCMC said: DH, “I will submit a memorandum of understanding to the government urging organizations funding in Karnataka to book 80% of their concerts for Karnataka artists.”
Mosing artist Bhagyalakshmi M Krishna pointed out that the problem is that Carnatic musicians from Karnataka do not have many opportunities to perform in the state.

Dr. Ranjani Vasuki, daughter of singer Dr. Nagavalli Nagaraj and an acclaimed vocalist in her own right, has pointed out that there is no point in whining about long-standing problems.
“We have to unionize because otherwise we cannot have collective action. We are already losing a devoted audience, but we must not let this rich culture die. no,” she said.
