Childish Gambino originally wrote “This Is America” as “Drake This”.
The 39-year-old actor and rapper — whose real name is Donald Glover — has revealed his 2018 hits. It is about the Black Lives Matter movement and features rappers like Young Thug, Rae Sremmurd’s Slim Jxmmi, BlocBoy and many more. JB, Quavo of Migos and 21 Savage were going to make fun of the “God’s Plan” hitmaker.
He told GQ magazine:[It] it was a funny way [a Drake diss], but I was like “this sounds kinda hard”. So I was like, “Let me play with that.” So we had it for a long time, I told Hiro. [Murai, his regular collaborator] He said, “Oh, let’s try.” “
The song was released at the same time as Glover hosting “Saturday Night Live”.
He used his late-night sketch show time to highlight the lack of diversity in the “Star Wars” franchise.
Reprising his role as Lando Calrissian, he said:
“I was hoping there was a black human planet somewhere, but I think it’s just us. Lots of lizard guys in vests. But only four black people.” ”
He recalls: There is a lot of s***.Well, you have to have a moment in real time – it’s [‘Saturday Night Live’].
“Fam and Chad, Wolf and Rothstein were like, ‘Okay, let’s do this SNL thing. Let’s stop at midnight…'” [of] All the uprisings and riots that were happening – [that] Really informed my writing and stuff.had a session with [Young Thug] And all these people, and I’m like, ‘Hey, do you want a ride? [this song]?’ We were making it like Trap’s ‘We Are The World’. It got to the point where I was like, ‘Yeah, I have to feel like everything.
In the same interview, Glover admitted that he doesn’t think his career would have been the same had he successfully auditioned for the cast of “SNL.”
He said: “I dodged so many bullets. If I was on ‘SNL,’ I would have died.”
Glover adds: And thank God. “
