Classical, hip hop and history combine in Juneteenth celebration featuring Blkbok

Juneteenth will be celebrated with a free, family-friendly music event co-hosted by Bells Brewery and The Gilmore on Sunday, June 18th from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. The event will be headlined by Detroit pianist Blockbok, who will perform his original classics. A work that has inspired multimedia shows all over the country.

Brockbok told Carla Lelance that she would be returning to Michigan after shows in Los Angeles and Los Vegas. He talks about his self-composed instrumental music collection, Black Book, which inspired him to change his musical direction, and how those wordless songs connect with audiences. Talk about how you gave him a new way. Juneteenth is a day to celebrate freedom, creativity, and family, he says. Blockbok is also celebrating his upcoming second album of original work and presents his first single, “What Is Truth.”

Blockbok hits the stage at 4pm on Sunday, but the festival kicks off earlier at 12pm with children’s games, historical exhibits, DJ Disobedience and keyboardist Minor Element bandleader and soul fusion specialist. Featuring music by Brandon Fitzpatrick. Admission to Bell’s Eccentric Cafe is free.
