Coldplay Shares Report of Continued Sustainability Commitment on ‘Music of the Spheres’ World Tour, Assessed and Validated by Professor John E. Fernandez of the Environmental Solutions Initiative at Massachusetts Institute of Technology bottom.
So far, their sustainability efforts have resulted in a 47% reduction in direct CO2e emissions and 5 million trees planted per show compared to their last tour in 2016-2017. and will be supported to maturity by planting 1 tree and planting 5,000 trees. Rehabilitated one hectare of land in 17 countries, implemented 21 afforestation projects, deployed solar-powered river interceptors on the Klang River in Malaysia through Ocean Cleanup, generated 158 tons of waste and 13 tons of ocean We removed plastic and removed an average of 86% of waste. Return rate of reusable plant-based LED wristbands.
In addition, the band generated an average of 15kWh of electricity per show through on-site solar installations, kinetic dance floors and power bikes, diverted 66% of total tour waste from landfills and 3,770 meals from tour catering. meals and 73 kg of toiletries. Financial support to environmental groups such as ClientEarth, The Ocean Cleanup, Climeworks, Sea Shepherd, Project Seagrass, Sustainable Food Trust, Cleaner Seas Group, Food Forest Project, Knowledge Pele, Conservation Collective.
“We fully support this effort as being of great importance, scientific rigor and of the highest quality,” said Professor Fernandez.
Coldplay said in a statement:
“When we first announced the Music of the Spheres tour, we wanted to make this tour as environmentally friendly as possible and to reduce direct carbon emissions (from show production, freight, moving bands and staff). We wanted to reduce our emissions by 50% and I would like to share our progress, some things work, some things need improvement.
Emissions data for the first 12 months of the tour were collated, evaluated and independently verified by Professor John E. Fernandez of the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative.
In a show-by-show comparison, the Music of the Spheres Tour has so far produced 47% less CO2e than the previous Stadium Tour (2016-2017).
This is a good start and something our wonderful staff should be very proud of, but clearly there is still room for improvement.
Now in its second year of touring, we have started running the entire show (sound, lighting, lasers, etc.) on a battery system that utilizes 100% renewable energy as efficiently as possible. We use electric vehicles and alternative fuels wherever possible, and minimize waste and plastic use.
Thank you to all the talented people and creative spirits who have helped us along the way.
A big thank you to everyone who came to the show and made all of this possible. You helped recharge the batteries for the show with power bikes and a kinetic dance floor. Traveled to the show on foot, by bike, or by public transport. I used a recycled box. Carpool. I brought a refillable water bottle. I returned the LED wristband after the show. And just by being here, you’ve planted trees and supported various environmental groups like The Ocean Cleanup and ClientEarth.
Thanks to all of you. Hopefully by this time next year there will be big improvements. If anyone has an idea feel free to send it through this link.
with love
