Commemorating 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop in New York – Caribbean Life


To celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop music, the virtual competition Hip-Hop FinFest returns with Volume 2: Wants are Needs Too! The competition will also be held next month when Financial Literacy Month is recognized. This year marks 20 years since he was first certified.

Students entering the competition must be between the ages of 12 and 18 and reside in the United States, Canada, or the United States Virgin Islands. Additionally, the winning student will receive a year of mentorship to develop their financial and creative skills and the opportunity to become a peer leader for the next installment of FinFest. The top three winners will receive cash prizes: 1st place will receive $1000, 2nd place will receive $500, and 3rd place will receive $250.

Judges for this year’s contest include Queen Herawin, a female rapper who is a member of New York hip-hop group Juggaknots. Another of his New York City judges is his Sway Calloway, who hosts the radio show Sway in the Morning on his Sirius XM radio station Shade 45.
