Dave and Central Sea topped the UK charts with new single ‘Splinter’, setting streaming records in the process.
The collaboration hit 13.4 million streams last week, making it the all-time rap single.
It’s also the highest number of first-week streams since Adele’s “Easy on Me” reached 24 million streams in 2021.
The duo’s smash is a playful, intelligent track that acknowledging their absurdity yet laden with rap clichés.
The song is an excerpt from the surprise EP Split Decision, the first time the two old friends teamed up since they exchanged lines on AJ Tracey’s Spirit Bomb remix in 2016.
Two more songs from the EP also entered the top 20 of the week, with Trojan at number 14 and UK Rap at number 17.
Meanwhile, pop stars Kylie Minogue and Madonna have the biggest hits in years on the charts this week.
Kylie’s hypnotic new single “Padam Padam” soared 11 spots to number 12, thanks to fans buying the limited edition CD single from her official website.
The song is the star’s biggest chart hit since 2014’s “Into the Blue,” which also reached number 12.
Madonna returns with ‘Popular’, a collaboration with The Weeknd and Playboy Carti.
The song, which is a reference to the HBO drama series Idol, debuted at number 21, making it the Queen of Pop’s highest chart position since 2009’s Celebration, which peaked at number three.
Madonna is set to drop another hit next week with the release of Sam Smith’s duet “Vulgar.”
On this song, which is cheekily credited to “S&M,” the singers hit back at those who criticize their sexually provocative lyrics and costumes.
On the album chart, the Foo Fighters hit #1 for the sixth time with ‘But Here We Are’.
It’s the band’s first album since the tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins, and it shows the group’s grief and devastation.
The record has sold 44,500 chart units in the past seven days, slightly ahead of Noel Gallagher’s Council Skies.
