First, where did you grow up? When did you move to America?
I grew up in South Korea. I moved to the US in 2012.
Please tell us about your training. Did you play when you were little? Did you go to music school as well?
I started with the cello, but when I was little I was never interested. When I was in high school, I had the chance to see a band, and it changed my life. He attended music college in Korea and graduated from his GIT at his Institute of Musicians in Hollywood.
What do you do to keep yourself warm? Do you have any recommended scales or finger exercises?
I warm up chromatically and bend at a very slow tempo.
How many guitars do you think you own at this point? Which one is your go-to? You look more like a Fender girl, at least from your social media.
In America, I have 17 guitars. My first guitar was a Fender Custom Shop 1956 Relic Stratocaster that I inherited from my father. I love Fender guitars, but after a show-related back injury, I had to look for a lighter weight one. My main guitar is a Strandberg NX 6 model, which I use at Gwen Stefani and Willow’s live shows. Strandberg guitars are very solid. Oddly enough, I haven’t cut a thread in the last four years…so far, hahaha! Willow Smith’s set also uses a few songs from the Rose series of Jackson guitars.
As you said, you currently play guitar for Gwen Stefani, Willow Smith and many other big names. How did you record these amazing gigs?
Through extensive auditions, he landed gigs for CeeLo Green and Zayn Malik (ex-One Direction). After the audition, I got a lot of calls. My phone is still ringing! I feel blessed. 🙏🏼
