Business: Inflation eases to 6.1%
In business terms, inflation eased for the fourth straight month in May due to lower transportation costs and a restrained increase in food prices, the Philippine Bureau of Statistics reported Tuesday. The 6.1% result was down from 6.6% in April, but still higher than the 5.4% in the same month last year and within the range of 5.8% to 6.6% for the Pilipinas Central district for the month. Year-to-date headline inflation was 7.5% and core inflation was 7.8%. It remains well above the central bank’s target of 2.0% to 4.0%.
