Tell us a little about yourself.
My real name is Michael Boakye. I am a young rapper from Ghana. I went to primary school in Mary Star of the Sea, Kasoa town. I did my secondary education at University Practice Senior High School, Cape Coast and then went on to the University of Education, Winneba. I am an only child, a Christian and I am from the Eastern part of Ghana.
What first inspired you to pursue music?
Music has been my passion since I was a child. Since I was a teenager, I loved rapping and decided to try writing my own freestyle raps. When I would perform my freestyle raps to my friends and colleagues, they would always tell me that I was very good at rapping and that I should try to do it professionally. So I decided to take it seriously and started making music professionally.
Who is your musical teacher and why?
Sarkodie and Joey B are people I've always looked up to. When I first started making music, I was called Beezy. Beezy is Joey B's nickname in the music industry. I looked up to him so much that I started using his nickname as my stage name. Sarkodie is the best. I really look up to him because I want to be the best too.
You're a rapper, what influences your music?
My music is influenced by what's going on around me. The experiences of people I see and what I hear people talking about. Other people's and my own life experiences combine to make my music, so it's very relatable to everyone who listens to it.
What do you hope to achieve through music?
As a musician, my goal through music is to connect with people on a deep emotional level, evoke emotions and create a shared experience through sound. Music has the incredible power to bring joy, comfort and inspiration to people and that is what I aim to achieve through my music.
Tell us about your music. You have an EP out now. Which song do you think represents you?
Every song defines me, every song speaks to a different aspect of life that I want to express, all of these experiences are things that I have actually been through.
What challenges do you currently face in the music industry, and what do you think could help solve them?
My main problem is how to get traffic to my music in terms of social media. My content is published on my platforms but I am not able to reach millions of people. That has been my main challenge for the last few years.
If you had the opportunity to feature anyone right now, who would it be and why?
It is Sarkodie who is my role model, I have always wanted to do a song with him and also he will bring me to the public attention and introduce me so everyone will know my talent.
What's next for you?
I'm going to make more music. I'm going to have a lot of stuff coming out over time, hip hop, afrobeat, whatever. I want to be consistent in how I put out new music. That's what I'm looking forward to.
