“You fuckers are chasing you…and you fucking rap about this lifestyle,” he said around the 53 minute mark. “What this little kid thinks is happening is dangerous, very harmful, very dangerous to the community. You didn’t even live (something).”
Shmurda, who served seven years in prison from 2014 to 2021 for conspiracy to murder, went on to argue that hip-hop music can still represent harsh situations, but should be viewed more positively.
“I think rap should teach these assholes to go from negative to positive, from poor to rich,” he said. “And how do you stay in that state and how do you change? That’s what I want to hear, about living life.”
Shmurda also said that he is so unhappy with the current state of hip-hop that he no longer listens to the genre except when he is out at night. “That’s why I don’t listen to rap. I don’t really listen to rap. I don’t know anything about rappers… I only listen to rap when I’m in the club and I dance to everything.”
In his recent comeback mixtape, Bodboy, in August 2022, Shmurda repeated this sentiment musically. With songs like “Hoochie Daddy” and “On God” featuring his longtime friend Rowdy Rebel, he was able to craft a lively banger perfect for dancing in the club.
On top of the Bodboy, Shmurda has released numerous singles since his joyous release two years ago. These include “No Time for Sleep,” the first hit of his return, “Shmanane,” which he performed with Quavo and Rowdy Rebel in December 2021, and his only song in 2023, “Rats.” be
