Gospel-reggae artist Minister Tough described his second album as “12 songs you can’t skip”, which is laden with laughter and “Godfidence”.with a name like differenthe has that right.
This bright set is a rhythmic and lyrical celebration of one’s uniqueness, interwoven with testimonies such as: Tell Them Phi Lo Mi and God continues to guide It is something that “honors God” because of His unwavering love and presence.
What stands out is the project’s perfect blend of language and mainstream, executed by Minister Tough’s longtime producers Jevmy Jay and Dajourney. For example, consider the trap that dance halls feel. sell you out This warns against jealous people.wave of infection ketch a style, Dance and breathe good vibes. Or even the framework of the title song, which transcends genres, makes us feel the dynamic voyage that awaits the listener.
More thematic than 2019’s debut album life I investigated the high tide and low tide, different Pre-orders are currently being taken and the release date is June 30th.
dancehall mugs We spoke to the UK-based artist about why the album is so “different.”
What is the story behind this album Different? The intro and outro make it feel unique.
Yes, this is personal in a way, because I wanted people to see that I was different from other artists, that I was in my own lane. I’m the tough minister. I am unique and nothing compares. Moreover, I can’t get into either. Different also means not the same as others, and this album certainly isn’t the same as my first album. The songs, the style, the delivery, the atmosphere, the growth, the production, the atmosphere are all different, but the message is there.
When did you start working on it?
We started recording the album in September of last year, and I think the whole process, including mixing and mastering, took about six months. But I ran out of time. In terms of writing the record, I’ve had songs I’ve written since 2020, so most of them were finished a little while ago, but I’ve just been waiting for the right time to release them.
Fiona Yorke is the only artist on the album with “Never Leave Me.” What drove that collaboration?
Fiona is my sister for life, true story! Congratulations to Fiona. Thank you for blessing this project. Great, anointed vocals, and the background vocals are so sweet… Fiona is a very talented artist and she complemented the track nicely. I prayed for it and strongly urged her to contact her. I told her about it and she told me what I was looking for and she knocked it out of the park. Many say we complement each other. She recently had a baby, so the song is also a testament to both of us, and the story behind it shows that God never leaves us. There was feedback that the two of us should do a joint project together. So I don’t know.
This album, should it be “Ketch Eh Style” versus “Tell Them Fi Low Me” or “Different” versus “Nuh Talk to Mi”, balances playfulness and seriousness. How intentional was this juxtaposition?
No, to be honest I don’t know where God is going to take this album, so much prayer and fasting was spent putting this project together so this was intentional from my part. I won’t say Seek divine guidance to God. Mi just listens and is obedient, and Wara balances. As DJ Khaled put it, “God did.” After all, I don’t have a big label, so I don’t have the luxury of recording 40 songs and choosing from them, but I pray and fast and let God tell me what songs to make. gave me It’s on my album.
Songs like “Secretly Jealous” and “Sell Yuh Out” also have themes of navigating jealous people. Some might think that this is not a good gospel album, or that it is an experience that resonates with Christians and non-Christians alike. What do you say?
From the beginning God showed me that my music is not just for the church. It’s for larger, mundane spaces, men smoking and drinking on street corners… people always have their own opinions, but if God tells me to do something , I’m going to let people down rather than let them down God. This project is made for both Christians and non-Christians… As for me, I want to make a difference in other people’s lives, so I’m always going to make music that is authentic and relatable. The soul falls out and saves. Also, the songs you mentioned are real music…
You lead on “Bam Bam.” Which record on the album was the most fun to work on? If yes, why?
I enjoyed working on all the records and I love them all, but the second verse is no, let’s go I had tears in my eyes before, so this time I was a little more moved. I don’t even need to elaborate on that verse. Because that’s what the public hears when they listen to the album.
What do you expect from “Different”?
As always, I want what God wants, true story! We also hope that it will impact lives, save souls, and make a difference in the lives of others. I would love to hit #1 on the charts, achieve some big numbers and see myself make history as an independent artist from the small community of Douenver, Jamaica (I live in the UK). but). You can also be selected for the Recording Academy and win an award. Why? Nothing is too difficult for God. Ultimately, God’s name will be glorified because people will have to admit, “Oh, this kid doesn’t have a record label and he’s doing this.” Wow, it can only be God.
