new orleans rapper boy After recently calling on organizers to remove him from the hip-hop 50th anniversary celebration, he announced that he will be joining the line-up for the 2023 ESSENCE Festival of Culture.
Earlier this month, the multi-platinum rapper took to social media to criticize ESSENCE festival organizers for not including him in the line-up. “How is ESSENCE doing hip-hop in New Orleans for 50 years without me??” Juvenile said in a post that has since been deleted.

The only local talent originally included in the line-up was New Orleans rapper Mia Xwill appear on 50 Years of Women in Hip-Hop, hosted by Angie Martinez.
On the night of June 7th, Juvenile announced on social media that he had been added to the line-up for the evening concert at the ESSENCE Festival on June 30th, stating, “Hip-Hop 50 without Juvie?” Not a chance. June 30th, NOLA, we are alive! “
In its early years, ESSENCE hosted many local New Orleans artists’ musical acts, often in the Superdome’s “SuperLounge”, but over time it became more popular with local musicians and musicians. Participation has dropped significantly, with Mia X initially included as a local artist until only Juvenile released a social media post this year.
The same day Juvenile announced his performance on social media, ESSENCE festival organizers released a statement about the festival’s commitment to representing the New Orleans community.

Despite the surprise performance, the day’s celebrations are represented by hip-hop artist Juvenile and the City of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana.
