Kacey Musgraves and Reese Witherspoon launch a new country music reality contest on Apple TV+ this month.

My Kind of Country will debut on the streaming platform on March 24th, with the aim of increasing diversity within the genre.

In a new trailer released this week, Witherspoon said:

Musgraves said, “Bluegrass, folk, gospel. There are many threads woven into country music.”

Gay country singer Orville Peck, black star Jimmy Allen and Mickey Guyton were among the show’s trio of judges to help balance the current overly white, male and heterosexual country scene. Emphasis.

After a jury recruits participants from around the world, they all head to Nashville to compete for a chance to win “a life-changing experience from Apple, including global exposure across Apple TV+ and Apple Music platforms.” .

Last year, the Musgraves hit headlines when they called on Ted Cruz for a show in Austin, Texas.

While performing his hit “High Horse” at Austin City Limits, Musgraves aimed at the Senators and sang:‘Cause everybody knows who kills Buzz/every time they open their mouth,” before saying, “Ted Cruz… I said what I said.”

At the same gig, Musgraves stabbed himself to the U.S. Supreme Court this summer for overturning the Roe v. Wade ruling, telling fans at one point during his performance: “Honestly to the Supreme. We are in strange times, but we have each other…there is light. I promise.”

This isn’t the first time Musgraves has had a chance to hear her take on Cruz. In 2021, the singer sold T-shirts with the slogan “Cruzin’ for a bruzin”. It was designed to appeal to those who flew to Cancun when Texas experienced its worst snowstorm in years and many residents lost their electricity.
