Kurupt of Tha Dogg Pound reminds Melle Mel of successful black rappers and brings the conversation back to Em’s skill and charisma.
A new video from Kurupt’s interview with The Art Of Dialogue refocuses his reaction to Melle Mel’s comments about Eminem. The segment began with the host reminding Kurupt of his own words that Eminem was first and foremost a battle rapper and that only Dr. Dre turned him into a full artist. Kurupt doesn’t discuss it, but I don’t see how it can be used against Marshall:
Eminem served as MC. That’s MC for me! He paid his dues, served people in the cold and freezing, and just cut off people’s heads. The snow is too high to find the bodies. He got more bodies than he’d ever seen in all of Detroit. When he came out professionally, his team decided to send him on another journey, so there’s no way to judge this guy. I was. And it’s all in the name of hip-hop. It’s all that matters. It shows the diversity of hip hop. We are one culture, but we are all nationalities, we are all races, we are everywhere.
Mele Mel, Curtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash and all five, Kool Mo Dee and Trecharous Three set the tone for hip-hop to grow like a tree, branching out and branching out.
It’s people like Eminem who keep hip-hop alive. It is true because there is diversity. He took it to a whole other dimension and made a whole other race and generation feel like they could too. And we got good things out of every race, great things.
Thanks to Melle Mel for what she did. Without Melle Mel and all the greats we wouldn’t exist. So I respect his opinion, but our generation disagrees.
So, “Would Eminem be a different rapper if he were white?” the host argues. is proposing a conversation.
This is a very good argument for a good panel.I can’t say yes or no because I don’t know why [Eminem]Success.I know he’s great on the mic and I know people love him. [Dogg]Black and he’s as successful as Eminem. They like you when they like you. So our generation, Snoop did it and he’s black, and Eminem did it and he’s white, so he really can’t agree. I really don’t know how to take it. But everyone has their own opinion.
Indeed, the debate has been going on for years between those trying to discredit Marshall and those trying to prove his greatness. provides more evidence to defend Em’s place in hip-hop.
