Derived from ballroom dancing, which incorporates ballroom dancing, ice dancing is performed in pairs. The team perfects difficult dance patterns, step sequences and maneuvers while demonstrating excellent interpretation of the music and precise steps.
Each year, skaters perform rhythmic dances to music of a particular rhythm within the required tempo range. Today, International Dance Day, we put the spotlight on senior ice dancers and asked them their favorite rhythm dance style. See answer below.
Oona Brown and Gage Brown
Our favorite theme/style of rhythm dance that we performed is hip hop/blues. Hip-hop was a style that we always wanted to skate, not only because of the choice of music, especially he liked the 80’s and he liked the 90’s hip-hop. Ever since Tessa and Scott performed the “Prince” rhythm dance in the 2016-17 season, and Piper and Paul performed the “Disco Her Inferno” rhythm dance, everyone got up. I wanted to skate on something like that. and dance. The year we skated hip-hop/blues rhythm dance was the year we won the World Junior Championships, so it holds a very special place in our hearts and in our skating career. .

So far our favorite rhythm dance theme was street dance with the blues. It was a lot of fun and gave me a lot of freedom to explore new styles. It’s a more open theme than usual, so it was really cool to see everyone’s different interpretations!
Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko

Madison Chock and Evan Bates
Our favorite rhythm dance was Billie Eilish’s hip-hop themed program. Hip-hop has a rich history and there are many different styles of dance to choose from within the hip-hop category. It’s a lot of fun learning different hip-hop styles when preparing the choreography process at the beginning of the season. It’s just It was also a lot of fun to see the styles the other teams chose throughout the season!
Rafaela Consius and Alexei Shchepetov

Lorraine McNamara and Anton Spiridonov
It’s so hard to pick a favorite (anytime the music is playing, we can be sure we’re grooving), but we have to choose hip-hop. The music possibilities to dance to are endless and it’s so much fun to experiment and learn different styles within the genre! Hip-hop also has such a rich history that I feel like I learn something new every day.
Eva Pate and Logan Bye
A favorite rhythm dance theme/style we performed was the mix of blues and hip hop we skated to last year when we played the characters of Brittany Spears and Justin Timberlake.”Cry Me a River” and “Bye Bye Bye” were really fun to skate and I really like the hip hop theme in general. The style of music brings energy and rhythm to the stage and I feel it’s a good mix of very powerful yet fun and exciting. For this upcoming season, our plan is to bring that same energy to ice, and so far we’re having a great time playing around with different songs within that genre.
Emilia Gingas and Vadim Kolesnik
Our favorite rhythm dance theme is Latin. At the beginning of the season, we were able to try different Latin rhythms, which were also fun and exciting. We spent a lot of time figuring out which rhythm worked best for us. After a while, I decided on samba and rumba. We found that combining these styles allowed us to show range through the character’s contrast and her movement between the two styles. Like Latin culture, Latin style dance is vibrant and beautiful. This theme challenged us to learn new skills and show a greater connection with each other through dance.
