Method Man shared his thoughts on the current state of hip-hop and how things are different from the Wu-Tang Clan’s heyday.
in an interview with breakfast club In the show, which aired Monday (May 12), the “Bring the Pain” rapper told Charlamagne the God and DJ Envy how much he’s changed in 30 years.
“Let’s say hip-hop was in the early twenties,” he began. “I’m still young, but I love sex, you know what I’m saying?” I’m trying to find out what these streets are. It is therefore more believable. When you listen to a West Coast record, you know it’s from the West Coast. When you hear UGK, you know it was in the south. ”
He continued: Because what works works. And I like some of what they’re doing today. But back then we had identities. And everyone was fighting for their identity. Now, it seems like everyone is fighting for the same identity. ”
But Meh is quick to point out that despite today’s sound homogeneity, he still holds out hope for hip-hop’s future. “[I don’t mind because] Will it ignite the heart that will change everything? ”
In all fairness to the “Protect Your Neck” rapper, he’s never afraid to show his love to today’s artists – as he proved with a shoutout to GloRilla back in February.
hip hop DX I had the chance to meet Wu Tang MC on the 2023 Grammy Awards red carpet. It didn’t take long before Meh was asked what new artists he was listening to at the time.
Method Man said he has one “big shot” new artist in his family, Glorilla, thanks in no small part to the hit “FNF.” [of] It’s today’s music,” he said. “But who are the people in my household now? Who are they playing with in my house? Gro.”
He went on to say that while he did meet Glorilla, she didn’t seem to know who the legendary rapper was at the time. Anyway, she said she was very kind. “It speaks volumes about her personality. She loves her,” added Metz.
Glorilla responded to Meth’s love on her Instagram story, saying she “definitely” knew who the New York rhymer was and was a “huge fan” of his music. “@methodmanofficial I definitely know who you were lol I’m a huge fan,” Gro wrote on IG.
