method man Represented hip-hop at the Juneteenth concert on the South Lawn of the White House on Tuesday, June 13. He appeared at his first event and spoke a few words about his relationship with the genre as it celebrates the federal holiday and the milestone 50th anniversary.
“This concert during Black Music Month is a fitting way to honor Juneteenth and represent a piece of our shared American history,” Metz said in a video posted on TikTok. “African Americans have found community and solace through music. Music has the power to uplift us, enrich our hearts, and nourish our souls. Have you heard the 50-year history of , soul and hip-hop?! Each generation of black musicians, artists and thought leaders has poured their lifelong struggles into the soundtrack of America.”
Method Man was one of many selected to play at the Juneteenth concert. Also in the line-up were Jennifer Hudson, Audra McDonald, Redisiwill also include marching bands from historically black colleges, such as Morgan State University and Hampton University.
This event took place two years after the presidency Joe Biden June 1st is declared a federal holiday. He said the decision to do so was not merely symbolic.
“It was a statement of fact for this country to acknowledge the original sin origins of slavery and understand that no war was ever waged over it,” he said. “It was not just about trade unions, it was most fundamentally about country and freedom.”
