An 85-year-old woman raps against the closure of a nursing home in Ullapool.
Mo Dachaidh closed completely just seven months after the facility was taken over by a major private operator, leaving three facilities across Wester Ross.
Residents were relocated to another location and Ullapool’s primary care was questioned.
The decision shocked members of the community, and they campaigned to play music to highlight the loss.
Retired social worker Jill Beavitt, who lives off-grid on the nearby Squallaig Peninsula, joined fellow campaigners in a stunt to vent her frustration over the closure.
She told STV News:
“Years before Mo Dachide was built, when I was working as a social worker, I had to send people here and there when they needed care, so when Mo Dachide appeared , which was sorely needed.”
NHS Highlands has confirmed that the closure will leave only two NHS residential care homes and one independent care home in Westerross.
Emergencies are financial. Her operator, Parklands Care Homes, has posted its own online video of him in the form of a message to the new prime minister.
The company selling the building now leases the ground floor to NHS Highlands for primary care use by general practitioners, community nurses and therapists, as well as council social workers.
The contract is set to expire in the fall.
Loch Bloom Community Council Chair Topher Dawson said:
“They have other needs, such as housing doctors after hours, and there are many other possible uses for the building that will serve NHS purposes.”
