About 50 new vendors and a cornhole tournament will debut at this year’s Open Air Market & Music Festival, taking place June 10th from 9am to 10pm in downtown Monroe.Some attractions close before 10pm
The annual market and music festival is organized by the Downtown Monroe Business Network.
“We have over 100 vendors registered,” said DMBN event coordinator Paula Stanifer. “We have about 50 new vendors. We have artists, all-day music, a car show, a kids area, character meet-and-greets, and a beer tent.”
Vendor booths and sidewalk sales will run from 9am to 6pm on East Front and East First Streets, Macomb Street to Monroe Street, and 2nd Street to Front Street on Washington Street. There will also be vendors on West Front Street, West First Street and Monroe Street.
Vendors offer squirrel feeders, gift baskets, honey, succulents, condiments and rubs, crystal and mineral bracelets, semi-precious stone bracelets, keychains, dream catchers, pottery, t-shirts, paintings, pottery, jewelry, and wood burning. We sell items such as artwork. And a picture on canvas.
In addition to the specialty stores, several businesses in downtown Monroe are joining in with extended hours and sidewalk sales from 9am to 6pm. These include Amaya’s Fresh Mexican Grill, Cravings Sports Cards & Collectibles, Jones For Men, Salon 23, Brown Bag Boutique, Front Street Mercantile, Williams Insurance Agency, Two French Chickens, ASA Publishing and Floral City Images. , Martin’s Shoe House, Barn Owl, Thrift Shop, Misty’s Plant-Based Foods, Farmers Insurance Agency, Elegant Style by E, Cakes by Stephanie, Mindful Movement and French Fine Jewelry, Coins, Stamps.
The Sawyer Homestead (320 E. First St.) hosts an indoor and outdoor attic sale from 9am to 4pm. Small home appliances, books, antiques, household items, baby items, and some furniture will be sold. “You can even have friends come over and rent a space to sell their stuff,” said Rosalie Pasco, president of Sawyer Homestead.
A cornhole tournament has been added to this year’s Open Air Market & Music Festival.
“We try to add new features every year to expand our product offering,” says Stanifer.
We will start accepting walk-ups from 11:00 am on the day. The cost is $50 per team. The tournament will be played in a double-elimination format with 2 divisions from 4 seedings. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division. We welcome players of all skill levels.
The beer tent that made its debut at last year’s open air market will be back again this year.
“The beer tent was new last year, and I hope it’s bigger and better this year,” Stanifer said.
The popular car show on Washington Street will also return. Hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and operated by Monroe Michigan Good Time Cruiser.
“[The number of cars]depends on the weather. If the weather is nice, we might have 75 or more cars,” Stanifer said.
There will also be a free children’s area near Washington Street that will be open from 9am to 6pm.
“We have singing characters for kids, we have games and other activities and bounce houses,” Stanifer said.
Four costumed characters interact with participants. From 11am to 1pm, kids can watch Ariel and Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid. The schedule from 1:15 pm to 3:15 pm is Jasmine and Captain America from “Aladdin”.
Some area artists will exhibit in the artist area near the kids zone. Other artists will also be interspersed with the stalls.
Lorengerplatz has live music from 11am to 10pm. Six regional groups will perform.
4 kitchen cars are going to be parked downtown. Other trucks will sell ice cream, coffee and lemonade shakeups.
The now-closed The Book Nook will sell its remaining books at its former location, 42 S. Monroe St.
“We have over 4,500 books left.
Several streets in downtown Monroe will be closed to traffic starting at 8am on June 10th. They are East Front Street and East First Street from Macomb Street to Monroe Street and Washington Street from Second Street to Front Street. The parking lot at the corner of Westfirst and Monroe streets will also be closed.
The open-air market began in 2013 and last year marked the first full-fledged event since the pandemic began. Stanifer said thousands of people attend every year.
