Ragz Originale – SWEET NOTHINGS | Reviews

London-based multi-hyphenate Rugs Original Following up his 2023 project, BARE SUGAR, he has released what he describes as an extension of the LP, which comes in the form of the B-side coded piece SWEET NOTHINGS, which mirrors the title.

of Mini Kings The band's production abilities shine throughout the 11-song effort, with each track expertly layered. The musicianship shines through from the get-go, with a fitting intro to “I Choose Violence,” and his soft-spoken tone providing a stark contrast to the assertive lyrics.

Three other artists also participated in “SWEET NOTHINGS”. Bambi It appears twice: “ice” was released earlier and sets the tone for the project's uptempo moments, with the established duo being underground dance favorites. Karen Nyame KG “Sho Me” is a confident track influenced by electronic dance.

“Crossfire” was the only single released well before this project, and its bouncy rhyme structure radiates traditional Rags energy, while a succession of soulful guest vocals become more and more intoxicating, much like the shots he speaks on the track.

Songs like “Back in Paris” continue this sound, with the producer/singer-songwriter subtly boastful when talking about the lifestyle, with Angelina's additional vocals retorting, “Is it all glitter or gold?”, alluding to the high life double consciousness he's experiencing.

Halfway through this deluxe album, we are immersed in the soundscapes of Ragz Originale, whose compositions transport you into a vibey world, continuing the themes of “BARE SUGAR”: love, sex, life and a little poison.

There's some nice call and response on “Send Help” and then we return to the club for “Sexy Riddim,” which is really sexy and seems to be influenced by a Jersey mix.

Additional miso The final guest appearance is by Ragz, whose all-round performance ability is on display on this track. He closes us out with “cold case,” which despite starting warm, is the most somber drop. “BARE SUGAR” and “SWEET NOTHINGS” blend together nicely as a package. Ragz Originale does what he does to a tremendous standard, and his short and sweet tracks are not to be missed.

7/10
