Remsen Arts Fest features music, kids’ activities and lots of art

Strip — Remsen Performing and Visual Arts Center presents Remsen Arts Fest 2023 May 19-21 at Remsen Arts Center, 9627 Main Street.

The festival features art shows and sales by local artists, live stage entertainment, and activities for children, Fridays 2-6pm, Saturdays 10am-6pm, Sundays 12pm-5pm , artist demonstrations, etc.

Saturday’s highlights include a painting demo by artist Annette Gould, Ethan LaVallee and Eva LaVallee, and live music from the Remsen High School Band. Sundays will offer opportunities to create works of art with artist Sue Costanza’s interactive collage demonstration for children and adults, the Remsen Community Band and Choir, and more.

This is a free event thanks to generous donations from our sponsors, members, grants and community.

Old Maine and Cincinnati Creek will perform at 7pm on Friday. Tickets are $10, $8 for members, and $5 for students. Advance tickets are on sale now.

Based in central New York, The Old Main brings a unique style of American folk/rock to the scene. With an authentic sound, strong lyrics, and an energetic live show, The Old Main is a roller coaster from folk-hit ballads to raucous, foot-stomping fun. Featuring Blake Propst on upright bass. Seth Becker on guitar and vocals. Nash Robb on guitar and vocals and Pat Strain on pedal steel.

Based in the foothills of the Adirondacks, Cincinnati Creek takes its name from the creek that runs through the area. They perform songs about life, love, and local folklore on traditional bluegrass instruments and tunes featuring three-part and his four-part harmonies.

The band members are Lori Thompson on mandolin, guitar, lead and backing vocals. Kathy Martin on bass and backing vocals. Chris Pepe on banjo and backing vocals, Joe Rowlands on guitar, harmonica, lead and his vocals and backing vocals.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Remsen Art Center.

In conjunction with the art festival, the Snow Country Quilt Guild will hold a show on Saturday at regular hours at the Remsen Didymus Thomas Memorial Library at 9639 Main Street.
