How did this project come to fruition?
The cinematographer of ‘Gulmohar’ (Eesit Narain) knew me because I worked with him on the music video. He introduced me to the team. Then I got a call for an audition. This was planned during Covid so I had to send a video from Kerala doing the scenes from the movie. I also felt there was enough space in the story for every character in the film.
What was it like working with legendary actresses like Sharmila Tagore and Simran?
It was a great learning opportunity. The Sharmila ma’am was very warm and sweet. So did Simran. In this movie, my character has a special relationship with Simran’s character. Both play characters with South Indian traditions. She’s a superstar, but she did her best to make me feel comfortable. Everyone on set was friendly, including the young actors. Manoj Bajpayee acted as an icebreaker for all of us with acting workshops prior to filming. The director also played a key role in making us feel comfortable on set.

As you may have noticed, I rarely talk to Jeetu (Jatin Goswami) except when I get pissed off. I usually pick characters based on my beliefs about the movie. Factors such as whether I want to be part of the story greatly influence my decisions. In ‘Galmohar’, I liked how the director and editor handled all the characters and how they each had an arc. Also, Reshma’s character was quite different from many roles I have played in Malayalam films. In Mollywood, most of my characters had shades of gray or ulterior motives. Even Linda in “Paapam Cheyyathavar Kalleriyatte” is someone with a learning disability. But Reshma was different. I love that Reshma is energetic and she’s a sensitive woman at the same time, she’s confident in her relationships but her heart problems are still waiting for someone’s hand. . It was interesting to balance her cocky side, including her conversations with Param, with her shy side (romance) with Jeetu.
What are the main differences between working in Bollywood and Mollywood?
‘Gulmohar’ is not a typical Bollywood movie, so it cannot be generalized. However, because it was a studio production, the communication and structure felt more organized and corporate. At the same time, the people on set were warm and friendly. I was impressed with how well things were planned.
Do you have any other upcoming projects?
I haven’t signed up for any new projects, but there are some upcoming releases. Waiting for the release of the Amazon web series “Sweet Kaaram Coffee” revolving around her three generations of women from the same family.
