Al fresco dining and music will be available again on Wednesday when the weekly summer supper market returns to Unity’s Lincoln Highway Experience.

The Wednesday event runs from 5-8pm and features live music along with outdoor dining options from several local grocers.

A la carte options include Aroma Italiano in Latrobe, Chef Dato’s Table in Delhi Township, Connections Cafe in Ligonia, Greenhouse Arcade Taco Truck in Wimber and Simply Good Catering in Ligonia Township.

The first three show every week until August 30th, but the other two do not show the selected date.

Owner Sharon Deter said Connections Cafe has been serving grilled pizza at the suppermarket since its inception.

“Even on a hot summer’s day, it’s a beautiful atmosphere with large crowds and shade from trees throughout the space,” she said. “Listening to music is a great way to spend a Wednesday night.”

Kim Cady, executive director of the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor, which operates the location, said this year’s attendees will notice improvements in infrastructure.

Some of the aging wooden picnic tables have been replaced with new ones that are ADA compliant with extensions to accommodate wheelchair users. It is also made using recycled and sustainable materials.

“It’s designed to last. It should stand the test of time and winter weather,” said site director Spencer Simpson.

The musicians will also have a new, larger stage that will be wired with electricity, unlike the old stage.

Simpson said the improvement project was led by longtime volunteer Wayne Sauter, who procured both materials and volunteer labor.

The stage was built by members of the Bible Study Group at Trinity United Christ Church in Greensburg. The wood and hardware were obtained from Hitchman’s Supply of Delhi Township, and the electrical work was done by Brandt’s Electric of New Alexandria.

So far, donors have funded 12 new picnic tables. Simpson said he is still accepting donations to increase that number to 20.

Many of the musicians featured are known to have performed at various venues in the area, many of whom have returned to the supermarket stage.

“We are thrilled to be back in the supermarket again this summer. Coming back is like reuniting with an old friend,” said Mandy O’Leary, playing guitar in the duo ‘Detention’. , said Jane Deborn, who sings Easy Listening favorites.

Entertainment is funded by the Westmoreland County Local Arts Grant Program.

There is a $5 parking fee at the 3435 Route 30 East lot. Outdoor dining and pets are not allowed.

If the supermarket is canceled due to weather concerns, the information will be posted on the organization’s website by noon that day.
