Rising DMV rapper Davey Star is poised to make a major impact on the hip-hop landscape, as evidenced by his recent charting success on the iTunes Top 200. Alongside big names like Jack Harlow, Timbaland, Soulja Boy, and Metro Boomin, Davey’s single landed at #103, solidifying his status as the next big name to emerge from the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region.
“CB’s music just transcends the normal sound of Hip-hop/R&B,” Davey explained in a recent interview. “That’s the type of next-level shit I’m aiming for with my own steez.”
And Davey’s music does indeed possess a remarkable versatility and musicality that sets him apart. While clearly influenced by R&B superstar Chris Brown, he’s carved out a distinct lane for himself, cultivating a devoted fanbase in the process.
Davey’s journey to this point has been paved with hard work and determination. He first began honing his craft as a 16-year-old, rapping in his bedroom and grinding to establish himself in the local scene. An “established ‘locally famous artist'” took Davey under his wing, but it wasn’t long before the protégé had surpassed his mentor.
“I was just going hard in the crib, putting in that work,” Davey recalled. “And eventually, I ended up surpassing that OG, taking things to the next level.”
Now, Davey has the accolades to show for his efforts – nominations, radio #1s, and playlist placements among them. And he attributes much of this success to his heartfelt, emotionally-driven creative approach.
“That’s the only way I know how to do it, you dig? Straight from the soul, trying to connect with the people on a real level,” he said.
This connection with his fans has been a driving force for Davey. He shared a poignant story of a group of supporters approaching him, moved to tears by the impact his music had on their lives.
“That shit changed my life, for real,” Davey admitted. “That’s what it’s all about at the end of the day – touching people’s lives, bringing ’em together through the music, you feel me?”
Even in the face of challenges, such as dealing with “fake love” from within his own city, Davey has remained steadfast in his mission. Fueled by the memory of his late mother and a desire to continue putting on for the DMV, he’s determined to keep pushing the boundaries of his craft.
“That’s why I just gotta keep pushing, keep going harder,” Davey declared. “DMV stand the fuck up, ’cause Davey Star is coming through!”
