No matter where I travel around the world, I love to ask Church members what they remember most about their time in Primary. The most common answer is the inspired Primary music and how it continues to bless the lives of the Saints everywhere, sometimes during the most difficult times.
Primary Music Testifies of Jesus Christ and His Doctrines
Primary music is a powerful way for children to learn about Jesus Christ and his gospel. Sacred music is an important part of the spiritual foundation that blesses, strengthens and guides them throughout their lives. You can help children discover and understand key doctrinal truths while taking every opportunity to testify of His divinity using realistic images of the Savior. Taught. “Appendix A: Instructions for Singing Time and Children’s Sacrament Meeting Presentations” in the Come, Follow Me—For Primary manual includes carefully selected monthly instructions to reinforce the doctrine being taught. “Suggested Music for Singing Time” is also listed at church and at home. We hope these suggested songs will help your children learn, know and act on important doctrines.
Primary music helps children feel the Holy Ghost
President Dallin H. Oaks taught in an October 1994 general conference address: Are we taking full advantage of this heaven-given resource in our meetings, classes, and homes? ”
When I am in singing time or in class, I love seeing music leaders and teachers pausing after a song and asking children how they are feeling. , Some children feel happy. Some feel cold, others feel warm. This will help the children understand how the Holy Ghost speaks uniquely and individually.

Primary Music Engages Children in Gospel Learning and Sharing
Also, by actively participating in the learning process, children’s understanding of the doctrines being taught can be enhanced. It is important to ask inspiring questions that encourage reflection and personal application.
For example, here are some questions a music leader asked children to answer while teaching “Holy Ghost” (105).
- “hello [Christ] The music teacher asked the children the following questions: “When did you feel the Holy Spirit? comfortable you? “
- As the children learned that “The Holy Spirit whispers in the still little voice,” he asked them to respond with prompts such as “How can I still be ready to hear the little voice?” and “When has the Holy Spirit helped you do something?”
- For the line “When we are confirmed by the power of the divine priesthood,” he asked those who were recently confirmed to share what their experience was like.
- On the statement, “The Holy Spirit is given to us to guide us every hour,” he told one of his experiences acting on promptings, and then asked some of the children how they were helped by the Holy Spirit. I invited them to share how they felt guided. Holy spirit.
This inspired music teacher encouraged children to “be not mere listeners, but doers of the word” (James 1:22). We testify that engaging children through action, images, songs, and sharing opportunities lays the doctrinal foundation of a lifelong gospel of Jesus Christ.
