In a candid interview before her death, Tina Turner revealed that she was “not surprised” that Jay-Z mentioned his abusive relationship with Ike Turner while rapping “Drunk In Love.”

The best singer, known as the Queen of Rock and Roll, died peacefully at her home on May 24 at the age of 83.

Since then, some of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities have paid their respects on social media, including Beyoncé, who has posted a huge tribute on her website.

In the wake of the news, fans took a look back at the singer’s 2013 hit, in which she rapped about her husband’s abusive marriage to Ike before filing for divorce in 1976.

Tina made an unusual comment about the lyric while chatting with The New York Times in 2019, revealing that her record company warned her about it.

According to the paper, her response to the lyrics in question was, “Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised.”

On the song, Jay was heard rapping, “I’m Ike Turner, come on out, baby, no, I don’t play.”

“Now eat your cake, Anna May. I told you to eat your cake, Anna May.”

The remark was a reference to the moment when Tina (who was still known as Anna Mae at the time) was at dinner with her then-partner and a fan approached her and asked for her autograph, but she allegedly ignored Ike. .

Jealous of being ignored, he forces the cake into her mouth and says, “Eat the cake, Anna May.”

The moment was also chronicled in the 1993 biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It, starring Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne and chronicling the music legend’s career.

Tina started her own career after seeing Ike perform at a local club, becoming one of the backing singers for his group, Kings of Rhythm.

She fronted a band that reformed as The Ike and Tina Turner Revue and soon began dating.

They welcomed a son, Ronnie, together in 1960 and married in Mexico two years later.

However, after enduring years of abuse by her husband, Tina filed for divorce in July 1976.

Despite Drunk In Love, she remained a huge fan of Beyoncé. Beyoncé was one of the few accounts she followed on Instagram before her death.

Bay, who is currently on tour in the UK, has redesigned the front page of his website in honor of the deceased musician with the message, “My beloved Queen.” i love you infinitely I am so grateful for your inspiration and all the ways you paved the way.
