tortilla factory Legendary group celebrating 50th anniversary in 2023 pays tribute to deceased Bobby Butler“El Charro Negro” and Marcus Daniels during a performance at Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair Friday, March 17th in San Antonio, Texas.
Butler passed away in October 2016. He is best known for breaking barriers as the first African-American Tejano singer to enter the Tejano music industry in the 1960s.he participated Little Joe and the Latinas As a drummer and vocalist, he eventually formed the Tortilla Factory with Tony Guerrero in the 1970s, earning two Grammy nominations and a Lifetime Achievement Award. Tejano Music Awards and lead to Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame.
“El Charro Negro” inspired Daniels, who grew up in Waco, Texas, steeped in Tejano music and culture.
“Ever since I was a teenager, people have seen me dance and people have seen how much I love the Tejano culture,” says Daniels. Tejano Nation“I’ve wanted to meet him ever since, but unfortunately never got the chance.”
Alfredo Guerrero said, “When Charro was still alive, Marcus had been in touch over the last few years wanting to meet him. He was his hero. We were trying to set it up.” But Charro unfortunately passed by, so I called him and asked him if he would like to come on the show and sing some of Charro’s songs.”

After Butler’s death, Daniels recorded the classic “El Paparote” for The Tortilla Factory in tribute to Butler. One of the songs Daniels will perform at the Tortilla Factory performance scheduled for 5:20 p.m. Friday, March 17 is TMA Fan Fair on the Gateway stage. Planning a robe tribute.
Alfredo added that Tortilla Factory is planning a 50th anniversary album featuring guest artists and hopes to release it in April.
