Former Florida State University celebrity Travis Rudolph was acquitted Wednesday in the 2021 shooting of Sebastian Jean-Jacques outside his Florida home, according to the WPBF.
Rudolph, who spent a season with the New York Giants in 2017-2018, was charged with one count of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder. The incident stemmed from an incident involving four men who confronted him after an altercation with his then-girlfriend, Dominic Jones.
according to USA Today, The four men showed up at Rudolph’s Lake Park mansion, and as the confrontation escalated, Rudolph pulled out a semi-automatic rifle, fired 39 shots at the SUV carrying the men, and drove off. Jean-Jacques, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was shot dead. Tyler Robinson injured.
Rudolph asked the judge to dismiss the case because of Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, which allows the use of lethal force to protect oneself from death or serious bodily harm. This request was denied last year.
The jury deliberated for just under four hours before coming to a decision.
