Man filmed throwing stones and bottles at three people after Plymouth riots jailed
A man who filmed himself throwing stones and drinks bottles during disturbances in Plymouth is one of three people to be jailed for their role in the disturbances.
Rival protest groups faced off in the city on Monday, with violence erupting as the night wore on, leaving several police officers injured.
Daniel Maguire, 45, from Plymouth, Michael Williams, 51, from Sparkwell and Lucas Ormond Skeaping, 29, from Tavistock, pleaded guilty to rioting at Plymouth Crown Court today and were jailed for a total of six years and six months.
Devon and Cornwall Police said Maguire ignored Section 35 orders to disperse, spat at and swore at officers and behaved in an “aggressive” manner towards officers.
After being arrested, Williams kicked another man in the leg and “yelled a series of racist, homophobic and threatening epithets at the officers,” police said. During a body search, officers found a rock hidden under the leg of his trousers.
Meanwhile Ormond Skeaping joined in the action by throwing stones and bottles which fell in front of him.
“He filmed his actions on a GoPro camera which officers recovered as evidence. He was then seen on CCTV using the helmet to knock the teenager off his bike,” police added.
Williams was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison, McGuire to two years and two months and Ormond-Skeaping to 18 months.
