From indoor rock climbing events during Pride Month, free Latin heels and hip-hop dance classes in New Haven to Wyndham’s 2nd Annual Multicultural Latin Festival,
Connecticut has a series of Latin events planned for a variety of interests.
Here are five stateside events you can add to your June and July calendars.
New Haven — Free Latin Heels and Hip-Hop Classes for Beginners on Friday, June 9 at 57 Olive Street, Baila Con Gusto CT New Baila Con Gusto CT Team Member and Dance Instructor Susan Rodriguez will teach the class. The heel portion of the course starts at 7pm and hip-hop classes start at 8pm. Latin Heel Class teaches participants how to dance in heels safely and confidently, exploring different movement styles based on Latin and Caribbean sounds. Latin pop, reggaeton, salsa, bachata, etc.
Beginner hip hop classes focus on the basics. The studio encourages participants to bring sneakers to hip-hop lessons. Rodriguez will teach classes every Friday in June. Free for the first time only. To attend the course for the remainder of the month, the participant must pay a registration fee of $60. Visit his website on Eventbrite to reserve a spot or pay for the entire course for a month.
Latino Outdoors Connecticut will host its first indoor rock climbing event on Sunday, June 25 from 1-3pm at the City Climb Gym at 342 Winchester Avenue. The event is open to anyone over the age of 5, but will also feature indoor rock climbing activities. Serves as a Pride Month celebration for LGBTQ+ members. Anyone can participate in the activity regardless of their level of rock climbing expertise.
City Climb instructors support participants during the climb and help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Climbing for Change has awarded the Latino Outdoors Connecticut with a CLIF Bar Leadership Grant. This helped fund activities and enable participants to participate. Latino Outdoors Connecticut requires everyone to wear loose fitting athletic attire and sneakers. Interested attendees can book on the Eventbrite website.
STAMFORD — La Vista Bistro, 891 Cove Rd. will host a Latin Tango dance class and party on Sunday, June 25 from 7:30-10:00 PM with Maria Fiora’s Dance Studio. Guests can learn to tango and enjoy a Latin dinner, appetizers, and martinis. Dance events are perfect for couples and singles looking to meet new people. No dance experience is required for this event. Dance studios ask guests to dress dressy and avoid jeans and sneakers.
Appetizers before class are mixed, class and party cost $65 for one ticket, evening tickets cost $150 for appetizer, dance lesson and party. Tickets for dance classes and parties only are $30. The venue asks guests who purchased an appetizer mix ticket to arrive at 5:30 p.m., and guests who purchased her two tickets for the night to arrive at 6 p.m. Attendees can purchase tickets on her Eventbrite website. NEW HAVEN — Dre Romero and UPN will begin hosting a Latin Soul Night at Jazzy’s Cabaret at 4 Orange Street on Wednesday, June 28th from 5-11pm. Weekly events include a special Latin menu and Happy Hour starting at 5pm. Live disc jockey from 8-11pm. Admission to the event is free. However, attendees must pay a $100 fee to reserve her VIP or birthday table for 10 of her with complimentary champagne. WYNDHAM — Wyndham will host its second annual Multicultural Latin Festival on Saturday, July 15 from noon to 9:00 pm at Gilson Square 1. This free cultural extravaganza is designed to celebrate Latino heritage and the diversity of the Wyndham community through a day full of family-friendly music, food and activities.
