The annual 4H/FFA Auction will be held this Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Western Montana Fair.
I've had the opportunity to attend this event over the years and I have to say it's an amazing event. Kids from all over Western Montana come together to auction off the animals they've spent a year raising. It's so cool to see the kids proudly strut around the arena with their winning pigs.
Showing prized livestock takes a lot of work, but it's ultimately worth it when many 4-H students fetch top dollar for their animals, enough to cover the cost of raising their pigs for the next year or even pay for a semester of college.
Perhaps harder than raising livestock is being a livestock auctioneer. As someone who speaks for a living, I can tell you that calling an auction is no easy job. There's something uniquely appealing about calling an auctioneer; the tension and excitement of making bids while the man with the microphone speaks 300 words a minute.
Just think… what could an auctioneer do if they decided to change careers? Maybe they could become a play-by-play announcer at a racetrack. Maybe they could work in customer service for a software company. Or maybe they could become the next big rap sensation!
As you'll see in the video below, all you need is a microphone and a beat.
If you want to see what the fair is really all about, come to the Western Montana Fairgrounds on August 10th at 8am.
