Former Giants wide receiver Travis Randolph isn’t scheduled to go to jail, but what’s behind Wednesday’s acquittal of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder? I wonder?
Will any NFL team give him a chance?
“I have my freedom back and my life back,” Rudolph said after the jury’s decision, according to WPTV.
But will football become part of that life? Rudolph’s agent told ESPN Wednesday that the 27-year-old wide receiver is interested in returning to football.
A jury in West Palm Beach, Florida, took less than four hours to acquit Rudolph in connection with the 2021 shooting at his Lake Park, Florida home.
The April 7, 2021 shooting occurred after an altercation with Rudolph’s alleged girlfriend Dominic Jones. According to the Palm Beach Post, Rudolph opened fire on the car occupied by four men who were confronted after the altercation, killing one (Sébastien Jean-Jacques) and injuring another.
Rudolph claimed it was in self-defense.
“While we may disagree with the jury’s verdict, it is the jury’s job to determine whether a defendant is guilty or not guilty based on the facts,” said Mark Freeman, a spokesman for the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office, in a statement. said. “We respect the jury’s decision.”
Rudolph, 27, signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2017 after playing at Florida State. He caught eight passes in seven games for 101 yards. He spent time on the Dolphins’ practice team and signed with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2019, but was released after being arrested.
