Yankees ace Gerrit Cole looked like a bona fide Cy Young contender this season, but the return of the gopherball has put him off a bit in recent weeks. Perhaps all he needs to do to stop his fastball from going off-kilter is to get on-kilter?
Chris Kirshner The Athletic We recently featured Cole in our May gist, and it was all great (as usual), but the most important digression was the throwaway line about the right arm switching the knobs on the sound system after the Yankees won. .
The team’s playlist is constantly evolving, Kirshner said, and the Yanks had a lot of “plays” in May, finishing with an MLB-best 19-10 record.
After a recent win, a legend reportedly cue LMFAO’s ‘Shots’, the greatest song ever produced by Berry Gordy’s youngest son and grandson (yeah, that’s… their its true form). But Cole wasn’t satisfied with that and instead switched course to Harry Styles’ “Watermelon Sugar.” He then called Styles a “fuck” and praised his own decision.
What is the opposite of “I am not happy to report…”? “It gives me immense pleasure to report…”? This brings me endless joy.
Cole is a huge Harry Styles fan so I didn’t expect to read it today😂 pic.twitter.com/bUj1DYhzZf

Now it’s just a matter of digging deeper. When did the Coles Styles fandom start? When did the singer go solo? When he and his One Direction pals danced all night long to the greatest songs of all time? One D ‘s first collaboration took place when Cole was in his junior year with up-and-comers at UCLA. Did he ever insist that he and the baseball team throw a party at his house and play the audition video for “X Factor” in a big way? Was that what made teammate Trevor Bauer angry and stormed the room? These are important questions.
Cole has to break a few quirks to rediscover his beauty, but there’s no questioning his music-loving qualities. He makes his position very clear.
Hopefully the quiet Yankees clubhouse sounds like “sushi bar music” the next time he brings the dub home.
