Make Music Day is a global event that embraces and inspires musicians of all backgrounds, regardless of skill or age. The event first started in his 1982 in France, but has since expanded worldwide and is now celebrated in 120 countries, hosting his day full of free music making and listening. .
In New York City, performances begin as early as 10am and span all five boroughs. Join The Beatbox House, a beatbox collective from noon to 4pm outside the JBL Soho store and make beats inside his tiny mobile recording studio. If you’re in Hamilton Heights, stop by the Johnny Hartman Plaza to catch a great jazz performance by the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, the Fat Afro-Latin Jazz Cats, and more. noon-8pm.

PS: For those of you who want to kick things up a little early, Make Music New York has three events leading up to your big day. The 10th Annual Porch Stomp, a celebration of American and folk music, will be on Saturday, June 17th from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on Governors Island. The Southeast Queens Gospelfest will run from 3pm to 8pm on the same day. And on Sunday, June 18th, the annual DIY Punk Festival “Punk Island” will be held from noon to 6pm at the American Veterans Memorial Pier in Shore Road Park.
