How did you get started in this industry as an actor, director, producer and musician?
It started very early in church, when I was about ten years old. It was his birthday that day, so his father asked me to perform a song at the church. That way I could give glory to God that I was alive and able to do what I love. He said that because at the time I was always rapping songs by rap groups like The Cross Movement. Anyway, I ended up rapping the song “I Am That I Am” by The Cross Movement in church. The Haitians there didn’t rap like that, but they thought rap was so charismatic and creative that they started pushing me to do more. This led me to work with the pastor’s children, who were musicians at the church. Ultimately, fast-forwarding this story, the music I was making back then contributed to what I know and do now. We were essentially mining the craft of storytelling and music.
When I was in my twenties, they were doing this show and found my music and used one of my songs that was particularly helpful in telling their story. The show was called “Close Friends” and was a popular web series from 2012-2013 at the time. The creators of the show asked me to be on the show and it reconnected me with music. When he asked me to be on the show, I got back into shape creatively and acting. The connection between the story and the music became more apparent.
My then girlfriend (now wife) helped me buy a camera and I started doing a lot of work all over South Florida. He worked as a PA on some small commercial sets where he learned how to shoot. The first few projects were really bad, but they helped accelerate my learning experience. Sometimes I had to wear a different hat. There is always something to learn on my journey, and sometimes it feels like I’m back in school.
You recently worked with Hilary Duff. How I met your father–How was your experience this time?
Hillary sucks! That show is really cool and feels like you’re in an out-of-world experience.i was a big fan how i met your mother So being there… it feels crazy! The cast are really nice. We’ve all been out together, but it’s been really great working with the alumni and Hillary in particular. Hilary and I talk all the time about foodie spots in Los Angeles, and she points me to some of the worst. I really enjoy talking to her between takes. This show is a great honor for me. Because every time I participate in it, I feel so grateful.
What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on so far?
First of all I would like to mention Wu Tang: An American Story Because I had the chance to play the role of Rakim. I got to meet some of the Wu Tangs and the roles were really great. I didn’t think it was a normal acting role, and I realized that the lines were different, so that role was a great experience. What I want to say now is Grey’s Anatomy role and my role lap shot The next thing I want to talk about is two shows.
of Grey’s Anatomy Role – I loved that show for a long time! It was incredible to get the chance to be on it. Due to the new coronavirus, there was no real baby in the basket for a while. This was an experience I wrote in my diary. Because you really don’t expect to be on the show.
lap shot It changed my life. Creators are very creative and interesting people. They brought me in and they welcomed me very warmly. We get together, watch an episode together, and talk about it as usual.
You replay your role as a series regular lap shot season two. What are you most excited about in terms of returning to the series?
How they caught me off guard! Given where this character started in Season 1, I didn’t expect to see what we saw on the pages of this season. I would like to say that they have done a great job that really exceeded expectations. I’m excited for it and the show’s release! I’m also excited to see how we get through the strike. On top of that, I’m excited about the way the characters are written this season. It was very challenging.
what’s next?
It’s been a long time since I’ve heard music, so I’m really looking forward to it! I was away from music for a while, so I reunited with music for the first time in a while. I’ve connected with the creators I’ve worked with, and created works together. I also work with artists here in LA. Music is one of the most exciting things I’m working on right now. Plus, it’s mine too. The strike has nothing to do with it, it’s very important to me.
Apart from that, there are also a lot of indie titles that I’m excited about right now. My wife and I are co-producing two of her short films. This is what we want to do for us because we want to keep creating. A feature is also under development.
There are many more, so please look forward to them!
