Todd Vorley’s first summer transfer window turned out to be expensive, with only a few hints of drama. Spent over £200 million.

The Blues struggled at the end of the 2021/22 season, with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leaving at the end of their contracts and Tuchel starting pre-season where the club was just 12 months ago. Chelsea saw a lot of drama over the summer in their attempts to sign players like Jules Kunde and Rafinha, but failed against Barcelona. Almost ironically, in the final hours, Bory teamed up with the La Liga giants to facilitate the transfers of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marcos Alonso.

Tuchel is favored by the market as the deals of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Kukurella were completed before the Premier League season and young stars such as Kearny Chuckwémeka and Wesley Fofana. It’s hard to argue not. Nonetheless, the final hours of the window offered more drama as players were signed, sold, or loaned out.
