For more than half a century, famed composer Burt Bacharach’s wildly popular and instantly recognizable melodies have inspired millions of music lovers around the world. Starting his career as an accompanist to the legendary actress and singer Marlene Dietrich, Bacharach established himself as the topical successor to his predecessor Tin Pan Alley in the 1960s and has been featured on radio, television and film. created some of the most beloved and successful pop music of all time.
This archival PBS special features all of the original artists performing Bacharach’s hits alongside rare archive footage and clips from the 1960s and 1970s. Bacharach teamed up with lyricist Hal David to perform a number of classic songs, many of them with diva Dionne Warwick (“Walk On By,” “Aewan Who Had A “Heart”, “I Say A Little Player”, “I’ll Never Fall”) Falling in Love Again”). Bacharach’s hits revel in the silly “Look of Love,” while Tom Jones popularized the playful “Hot’s New Pussycat?” The ’70s smash continued, with the Carpenters scoring No. 1 with “(They Long To Be) Close To You” and B.J. Thomas’ Oscar-winning song “Raindrops Keeps Falling “On My Head” topped the charts. In the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”.
