Mountains of Music offers three nights of concerts during GoPro Mountain Games

The GoPro Mountain Games focus on athletics, but this year music will also be on offer, bringing the sweat and heart rate up for this event that kicks off Vail’s summer in earnest. Headliner concerts and line-ups of musicians performing throughout the village provide melodies over several days and that is music to our ears.

Mountains of Music will perform three nights of concerts at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, also known as The Amp. Note that these shows are ticketed and the venue capacity is he less than 3,000. Buy your tickets early if you want a spot on the lawn or a seat under the pavilion. You can bring a picnic inside the venue, but food and drinks will be sold, and no alcohol is allowed outside, so leave your bottles and cans at home.

The Amp ranks as one of the best places to see performances in the Valley. A beautiful backdrop of mountains, the sun setting over the Goa Mountains and the occasional rainbow (these shows are rain or shine) enhance the experience. So much for the venue, let’s talk about the bands playing Thursday through Saturday nights. Gates open at 6pm, first band starts at 7:15pm and second band plays at 8:45pm.

Thursday

Headliners: Brothers of a Feather with Black Crowes Chris and Rich Robinson

Chris and his brother Rich formed The Black Crowes in 1984 while attending high school in Marietta, Georgia, and produced the hit album Shake Your Money Maker in 1990. A lot has happened since then. Band dissolution and reunion. Take this opportunity to see the Robinson brothers on stage at The Amp on Thursday night.

Opening Band: Motet

Denver-based funk, soul, jazz and rock-influenced band The Motet have been inspiring audiences since 1998. With nine album releases and a tour that has taken them to Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, Bumpershoot and Red Rocks Amphitheater, The Motet feels at home. Bale has gained tremendous support locally.

Friday

Headliner: Oreboro

Oreboro features Rick Mitarotonda and Peter Anspak on vocals and guitar, and Jeff Arevalo on upright bass. The three are members of Connecticut rock group Goose, but the trio shared a house and continued making music together during the pandemic. Meet them at The Amp before they head back east for more tour dates.

Opening Band: The Heavy Heavy

The British native Heavy Heavy quickly rose to global acclaim, securing slots on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’, ‘CBS Saturday Morning’ and ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’. Catch the band named “Band to Watch” by The Guardian this Friday on The Amp.

Saturday

Headliner: Local Indigenous People

The LA-based indie rock band is gearing up to release another album on July 7th, so you might get to hear some of the new material from their album Time Waits for No One. not. Vail is the first stop on tours that take local Aboriginal people across the country. Catch me now. They said he won’t be back in Colorado until September.

Opening Band: Circles Around The Sun

Expect new material from Circles Around The Sun’s fourth studio album, Language, which was just released this spring. In this Los Angeles-based instrumental his supergroup, Bale pays attention to Mark His Levi, a familiar face who drums in many of his Valley-based bands.

In addition to ticketed concerts at The Amp, Mountains of Music will also perform at The Hangout in Guia Town and Golden Peak on Vail Road. During the day, watch local and regional events at outdoor venues.
